Additions and Deletions of CPdx Indicators from Wave 27
by Preetha Joseph
Since the beginning of the CPHS in 2014, several additions have been made to the questionnaire. Questions were added to expand the scope of the survey in response to field observations, and in response to suggestions from the research community.
Questions were never deleted. For the first time, some questions will be removed from the CPHS questionnaire.
Some questions that are being removed now were relevant essentially during the COVID-19 lockdown times. They are less relevant now and so are being removed. Some are being removed because they have not yielded useful results so far.
Thus, some indicators in the CPdx database will be removed from Wave 27 onwards. There will be some additions as well.
The following indicators will be removed from the People of India data files from Wave 27 onwards:
This indicator captured the principal reason why a member of the household wants to emigrate from the household in the future.
This indicator provided information on whether a household member was on any kind of medication, as of the date of survey. Here, medication implied the consumption or application of any kind of medicinal drug to cure or contain an ailment and mitigate pain. In order to increase the scope of this indicator and simultaneously capture medication in more detail, two new indicators will replace this indicator. These will be as follows:
This will capture whether a household member is on any kind of orally administered medicinal drug, as of the date of survey
This will capture whether a household member is using any other medication that is not orally consumed. This can include bandages including plasters, sutures, medicinal balms, eye drops, and will also include medical aids such as hearing aids and crutches.
These indicators captured the duration of a member’s employment status.
This indicator provided information on the time it would take for a member who is aged 15 years or more but is not in the labour force, to join the labour force.
The following changes will be reflected in the Consumption Pyramids data files from September 2022 onwards:
This indicator will be added to the Monthly expenses data files. It will capture monthly household expenditure on OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Voot, etc. This expense was previously captured under the MONTHLY_EXPENSE_ON_CABLE_TV indicator and now will be captured separately in this new indicator.
This indicator captured the monthly household expenditure on meat and fish. It will be removed from the Monthly expenses data files from September 2022 onwards and replaced by the following:
This indicator will be replaced by the following:
This indicator will be removed from the Weekly expenses data files from Wave 27 onwards and replaced by the following:
