CEDA-CMIE report on COVID-19 and people's economic lives

by Preetha Joseph

Since 2021, the Centre for Economic Data and Analysis (CEDA) at Ashoka University and CMIE have been releasing bulletins on how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted employment and household finances in India. The bulletins examine CPHS data for the years 2020-2022. They look at employment through the lens of gender, age, occupation, and industry. Trends in household income, savings, and expenditure have also been analysed.

A compilation of these bulletins has now been released in a CEDA-CMIE booklet. In addition to the bulletins, the booklet contains new pieces, updating readers on how the trends seen in the bulletins have progressed as of November 2022.

We hope this publication serves as a resource on the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and paves the way for further investigation by the research community.
