Income and expenses data for the month of May 2022 was released on October 1st 2022. Data collection for this month ended on September 30th 2022 and the data was released within one day.

During the survey interview, households are asked about household income and expenses for the four months preceding the month of the interview. Since each household is surveyed three times a year, this enables the creation of a monthly time series of income and expenses data. One fourth of the entire sample is surveyed within each month. This means that income and expenses data for a particular month is captured for the entire sample, over the course of 4 months. Income and expenses data for May 2022 was captured over the months of June, July, August, and September 2022. Information on the month that each household is slotted for interview as well as the date on which the interview took place is provided in the CPdx data files. This information is available in the ‘MONTH_SLOT’ and ‘DATE_OF_INTERVIEW’ data fields, respectively.

Monthly data is captured for households and household members. For the month of May 2022, income and consumption expenditure data was captured for 117,363 households. Income data was captured for 585,234 household members.

Total monthly income as well as monthly income from wages, dividends, pension, interest and from withdrawing monies from fixed deposits/provident funds/insurance is provided in the ‘Member Income’ files. Household income from rent, private/government transfers, in-kind transfers, business profit, self-production, sale of assets, gambling, and aggregate member income data for each household are provided in the ‘Household Income’ files.

The ‘Monthly Expenses’ data files capture monthly household expenditure on approximately 160 expense heads. These expense heads fall under the following broad categories: food, education, health, entertainment, EMIs, clothing/footwear, cosmetics/toiletries, power/fuel, transport, communication/information, and others.

All subscribers now have access to monthly income and expenses data from January 2014 to May 2022.
