by Gayatri Dewan

CMIE hosted a webinar on September 4 2020 to share the results from Wave 20 of the Consumer Pyramids Household Survey, in which households across India were surveyed in May, June, July and August 2020. Due to its heavy popularity, CMIE hosted a second webinar on the same topic on September 29 2020.

Wave 20 of CPHS started on May 1, 2020 and ended on Aug 31, 2020. It contains data from over 75,000 households across India. The record-level data from Wave 20 of CPHS was released to subscribers of Consumer Pyramids dx on September 1 2020.

CPHS is the world’s largest household panel survey, the largest regular household survey in India, and the largest household survey to be conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. The survey has covered over 232,000 households and 1.19 million individuals surveyed since 2014.

CPdx delivers data on household demographics, individual identities, employment, health status, financial inclusion, individual and household incomes, consumption expenditures, ownership of assets and intentions to buy them, household amenities and consumer sentiments. Income and expenses data are a monthly time-series since January 2014.

The webinars featured a one-hour presentation followed by a 30 minute Q&A session. The presentation covered the following topics:

  1. An overview of results from Wave 20, CPHS
  2. An introduction to CPHS
  3. How CPHS was conducted during the lockdown
